At this time I would like to share with you some facts from the history of the stock markets in India. It is important for all investors who invest or tend to invest in equities to take a trip down memory lane, particularly during times when the investor feels tired and let down by the market.  We need to be aware that this kind of despair is not new in the market but public memory being short, one tends to forget the days of despair.

Let me take some of your precious time to draw your attention to the table below depicting the peaks and bottoms of the Sensex in the recent past. Only the recent past is given here because it is relatively easier to connect to it.

I was Googling for the difference between a ‘Friend’ and a ‘Well-wisher’ and found an interesting article. It’s worth a look – although it’s not about the difference between a ‘friend’ and ‘well-wisher’.

A sycophant flatters you on your face,
And criticizes you behind;
Because –
He needs you to serve his own purpose.

But a true friend never misleads you;
He loves you genuinely on your face,
And criticizes you honestly on your face,
Whether you like it or not;
Because-
A genuine friend is an honest well-wisher,
Who cares for you,
And does not want others –
To criticize you behind.

If you have an insightful vision,
And an unprejudiced mind,
You can discern one from the other.
A criticism is healthy,
If it helps you to improve.

Similarly,
A friend is genuine,
If he helps you to improve.
Now, it’s up to you,
Take it or leave it.
